The mission of Ministry with Community is to empower people to make positive life changes.

About the Organization
Ministry with Community is a daytime shelter and resource center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We are open 365 days per year to anyone who needs our services, including those experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use disorder, and other crises.

Ministry with Community is a secular, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with a four-star rating on Charity Navigator. Every service we offer is provided free-of-charge.

The work we do is made possible by our volunteers, Board of Directors, staff, allies, members (those we serve), donors, partner organizations, and the Kalamazoo community.

Our Services:

We are open daily from 6:30am – 4:00pm. We provide the following services to anyone who enters our building or reaches out to us. There are no requirements or referrals needed to access our services.

  • Drop-in Services: These services are available 7 days per week to anyone who is in our facility.

    • Breakfast and Lunch

    • Showers

    • Daytime Shelter

    • Laundry

    • Personal Hygiene Items

    • Lockers

    • Phone Access

    • Send and Receive Mail

    • Computer Access

    • Photocopy and Fax Access

  • Social Work and Peer Support Services: Our Social Work and Peer Support Team is available Monday – Friday both in our facility and via phone and email. They can help with the following needs and much more:

    • Crisis Intervention

    • Employment Assistance

    • Recovery Support

    • Housing Assistance

    • Birth Certificates & IDs

    • Partner Agency Outreach

    • And More

Anti-racism Work
In February 2019, our Anti-racism Committee was formed as an official Committee of the Ministry with Community Board of Directors. This Committee’s goal is to ensure that our practices and services aren’t oppressing or creating barriers for those we serve, employ, and interact with.
